Headmaster's Bulletin 17th March 2017

Richard Bernard 2014 thbs

I like to use this bulletin to inform readers of the latest news at the school but whatever I write this week will be in the shadow of some outstanding reporting by our student reporters who took part in the nationwide BBC News School Report 2017. Under the expert eye of Miss Fitzpatrick, the news crew covered a breadth of topics and angles ranging from views on video games, to the Holocaust, to a trip to Arsenal FC and coverage of NSB's Charity Week as well as reporting on several other more regular items such as the weather! The students showed great poise and skill in front of the camera and all of them would have learned a huge amount about the many elements that fit together in order to produce a slick media production. The school is developing quite an affection for the Madejski Stadium, Reading. Last year the U15s won their national title at the ground, last week we took Mr Harris as a gift in his retirement year to see his beloved Newcastle United play against The Royals and this week the Year 7 football team booked their place in the national Schools' Cup Final to be played at the ground after Easter. Following a nervous start the team performed brilliantly to outgun previously undefeated Hurstmere School, Kent by 2 goals to 1 to make it nine wins on the trot in this competition with another national semi-final in the Open Cup next week. And just as I was about to sign off an email has just come through saying that George Patten Y8 has won the gold medal at the Junior Indoor National Rowing Championships! Brilliant!
