Headmaster's Bulletin 6th January 2017
A truncated week to reflect on as we have only been back two days as I write! The Y11s and Y13s are settled into the Trial examinations and this is the start of the run up to what I am sure will be a successful batch of GCSE and A level Results in the Summer. The students will receive plenty of feedback and I am sure will reflect on what can be done even better so that maximum success can follow in the real exams later.
I am sure everyone associated with the school will have shared my delight at the news that Yvonne Edwards received the MBE in the Queen's New Year’s Honours List.
Yvonne's association with the school goes back to the 1970s, as a parent of two boys who went through the school. Always an active supporter of the school, Yvonne has regularly attended events ever since. She joined the Governing body in the 1980s and was Chair of Governors from 1988 to 2014. Her positive impact, through the Governing Body and with all of the Headmasters she has worked with has been a major factor in helping the school progress from something of a slump at the end of the 1970s and early 1980s through to its current position. In particular, the philosophy that you can always do better and should strive to do so, still holds good to this day. The single-minded and personal commitment to this voluntary and unpaid role, over such a period of time, is hugely deserving of the recognition of this Honour and the whole school community owes her a considerable debt of gratitude.

Next Tuesday we start the process of receiving applications for places in the Sixth Form and we look forward, at our Open Evening, to hosting parents of many of our Y11 students as well as many potential students seeking to join us in the Sixth Form in September, who are currently studying at other schools.
