Headmaster's Bulletin - Friday, October 21st
Students from all year groups have enjoyed an incredibly rich week of Personal Development. Year 8 and 12 students have been away on residential, Year 10 on Work Experience and Year 7,9,11 and 13 students have undertaken a wide range of activities focused on a diverse breadth of themes including Careers, British Values, Anti-Bullying, Gender Equality, Global Citizenship through the Expressive Arts, House Activities and Mental and Physical Health as well as subject specific A Level intervention for Year 13.
One of the highlights of the week was a hugely successful Citizenship Panel for Year 11. The year cohort were given the opportunity to fire prepared questions at a Community Panel which included representatives from the police, two of our governors (Morcea Walker and Simon Hepher) and the Head Boy and Head Girl – Abdul Benhayoun / Emily McKenzie. The questions were very well thought through and appropriately searching for the Panel who handled them expertly. In the words of Director of PSHE, Miss Kennedy, ‘the whole learning experience and atmosphere in the Cripps Theatre was nothing short of exceptional for this activity’.

Young artist - Stanley Gemmel Y11, has his name up in lights in the Chronicle & Echo following his prize-winning entry to the Northampton General Hospital artwork competition. Stanley’s fantastic picture will illuminate the walls of the new Critical Care Unit at the hospital alongside the entries of four other award winners. Congratulations to the Year 11 football team who beat last year’s semi-finalists, Lincroft Academy from Bedford, 4-0 to progress through to the next round of the National Cup and similarly to the U14 rugby team who also progressed through their National Cup tie by a strong margin this week.
With Remembrance Day not too far away, our chair of Governors, Peter Bason, has once again designed a poppy pin badge for the school community. The image of this can be seen below and although the pin badges are yet to arrive, they will be on sale after the half term for a minimum donation of £3, either through ParentPay, student services or Main Reception. All profits will go to the Royal British Legion.
This year the pin badge reflects the blue of the school colours and commemorates the 194 students and staff who lost their lives in both the First and Second World Wars. There will be a more in depth article on the website after half term.
