Headteacher's Bulletin - Friday, November 8th 2024

We are incredibly proud of the rich history and positive impact the Cripps Theatre has had on our community and today marks 25 years since it first opened in 1999. Mrs Druker reports:

This anniversary is not just a celebration of the past, but also an exciting look forward to the future. Since opening its doors in 1999, the Cripps Theatre has become a beacon of creativity and inspiration. Over the past 25 years, it has hosted a myriad of performances, from enchanting musicals and thought-provoking plays to enthralling concerts and dazzling dance recitals. NSB will be commemorating the Theatre's 25th year milestone with a major celebration evening this academic year (date tbc) which will be a hugely exciting event. In the meantime, we have a number of stellar school performances coming up with the NSB Christmas Music Concert being our next major event. Tickets are available online from December 11th for general release or, if you have a Friends of NSB Music membership, tickets are currently available at the membership price.

We have received some fantastic feedback for our Y10 students following their recent Work Experience placements and one such example came to the fore this week with Max Harris achieving national recognition for his work. Mis Rickaby reports:

During Y10 work experience in Personal Development Week, Max Harris, secured a very sought after placement in print media, working  as a journalist for the national publication - 'The Rugby Paper'. So impressive was Max in this role that he was published twice in the newspaper across two separate editions. Max wrote a spotlight piece for their 'Young Guns' column in which he interviewed Northampton Saints scrum-half Jonny Weimann; he also wrote a comprehensive in-depth article on England Centurion Emily Scarratt, for which Max interviewed the former World Rugby Player of the Year. To top it all off, Max has been offered the chance to continue contributing to The Rugby Paper with regular insight articles. A truly fantastic achievement from an extremely determined student - we are incredibly proud of Max and we can't wait to see what the future of Sports Journalism holds for him.

Many of our leading musicians are also members of NMPAT - the Northamptonshire Music and Performing Arts Trust and a host of NSB students will be performing at the first major NMPAT Concert of the year - Youth in Concert 2024 at the Derngate on Sunday evening. One of our leading stars who will be performing in this concert - Auguste Yoong Y11, will be high on confidence having recently excelled in a royal engagement performance in front of the Duke of Gloucester.

There have been some exceptional individual sporting achievements to reflect on. Jacob Lewis Y10, and Joseph Lewis Y8 have been consistently bringing home silverware in national level wrestling competitions this year. The boys train several times per week in martial arts focusing on wrestling (freestyle and catch disciples), mixed martial arts (MMA) and judo as members of BST martial arts academy and Northampton freestyle wrestling. They recently both competed in the junior section of the British Catch Wrestling Championships where Jacob ended up undefeated after four bouts, winning three fights by pinfall and one by decision. In six bouts, Joseph won five, four by pinfall and one by domination. Both boys have received glowing reports from senior representatives of the National Body and have an incredibly bright future in the sport.

Joshua and Joseph Underwood and Harrison Waterson are continuing to make big waves in the British Squash scene - fresh from performing well in the British Championships,  the boys competed in the East Midlands Championships over the recent holiday period with Joseph winning the U13 boys event, Harrison winning the U15 boys event and Joshua coming runner up in the U17 boys event.

Many congratulations also to Luca McCourtie Y10 who has been excelling at Birmingham City Football Academy (the same Academy who developed Jude Bellingham) - recently being named by Birmingham City as 'Student of the Week'.

Finally, on this theme, many congratulations to former student Sonny Tonga'uhia who made an impressive Saints debut last Saturday, which included a fantastic moment when, before the game, he was awarded his first match shirt by his father and Saints legend, Soane. Video click here

Many congratulations to the First XV who have made the last 8 of the National Cup after a hard fought 23-19 win away against Finborough School in the Regional Final of the competition yesterday. Incredibly, NSB are still in all four National Rugby Cup competitions (U14/U15/U16/U18) and all 17 of the National Cup Football competitions with good wins in the latter this week for the U12As/U13As/U15As/U16As. Best of luck to the First X1 playing Campion today, to the U15 rugby team taking on Bedford School in the Regional Semi-Final of the National Cup on Saturday morning and to all four of our Cross Country Teams competing in the Regional Final of the ESAA Cross Country Cup tomorrow at Stowe School.

Year 7-11 students have been part of deeply moving Remembrance Assemblies throughout this week and we look forward to the main Sixth Form Assembly and War Memorial file past on Remembrance Day itself - next Monday.
