Headteacher's Bulletin - Friday, January 17th 2025
We were excited to welcome Holly the Therapy Dog to our Inclusion Team this week! Holly is joining the team on Monday mornings to work with students who are currently facing challenging circumstances and she will also be listening to some of our SEND students read.
The National Read2Dogs programme is a proven scheme which helps improve the literacy skills and wellbeing of SEND students, as well as developing general confidence, interest and enjoyment in reading for students with anxiety issues.
Huge congratulations to Jake Dell Y8 who has been selected to represent GB at the European Championships in RC (radio-controlled) racing this summer in Portugal. RC racing is an exacting sport with wide-ranging skill and dexterity required from the driver to control the cars from a significant distance whilst they spin around lengthy off-road tracks at great velocity! The cars are scaled at 1/8th of off road buggies and produce great torque from a single piston, 3.5cc engine which run on a methanol/ nitromethane mix of fuel. Such is the popularity of the sport that it attracts wide ranging sponsorship - as evident from the names dotted over Jake's car below!
There have been some fantastic performances in National Cup Sport this week with the U13A and B football teams overcoming tough opposition from Luton to make it into the last 16 of their respective competitions - a great achievement given well over 600 teams enter these competitions at the outset. Please see below, the great strike by Lorenzo Hanson which put the U13A team on their way to a 4-2 win.
The U16 rugby team moved smoothly through the gears to record a comprehensive victory over St Joseph's College, Ipswich 38-3 and they now look forward to a last 16 tie against Berkhamsted School. Next Tuesday, the U14s take on Warwick School away in their Round 5 - last 16 - National Cup rugby tie - kick off is at 2.30pm.
We also have a number of Expressive Arts events taking place over the next few weeks. First up is 'A Monster Calls' which will be sensitively performed by our KS3 students on 30th and 31st January.
NSB Visual Arts will proudly present their 'Spring Exhibition' on 4th February to celebrate the work created by our students over the past year. The event will feature a selection of art / photography by students from all year groups, as well as some work by former students. There will also be live work created on the night, by a selection of our Year 13 students in addition to an opportunity for attendees to participate in a mini-workshop. This is a free to attend event, but a ticket is required.
At the end of February we have the KS4 and KS5 production of 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time'. It’s a fantastic production - a family event that offers a unique perspective through Christopher’s eyes, reminding us that we all see the world differently.
Please find links to the events below.
Finally, a reminder that Year 13 parents / carers can book Parents' Evening slots from January 23rd (evening is February 6th). Year 11 will open for booking from January 30th (evening is February 13th). Emails will be sent via SchoolCloud for each of the events.
