PE

Northampton School for Boys is equipped with first class facilities to cater for all aspects of the PE curriculum. The school is blessed with beautiful grounds, a magnificent sports hall, a state of the art swimming pool, a traditional gymnasium, floodlit rubber crumb football pitch, floodlit 1st XV rugby pitch and floodlit tennis courts. The school has close links with the Old Northamptonians Sports Club and has access to their facilities.
Curriculum
All students in Years 7 - 11 follow a programme of 2 ¼ hours curricular PE every week.
At Key Stage 3 students follow a broad and prescribed curriculum. Each class will have one single lesson (45minutes) and one double lesson (1 hour 30 minutes) on a variety of different activities.

GCSE PE
In addition to core PE lessons, Key Stage 4 students can also select to study GCSE PE following the AQA specification, full details of the specification and unit details can be found clicking on the following link.
The GCSE is 60% theory, with 40% based on coursework completed in year 11.
Year 10 GCSE
Pupils will complete Unit 1 of the course which covers:
- applied Anatomy & Physiology
- Movements Analysis
- Physical Training
- Use of Data
Year 11 GCSE
Pupil will complete Unit 2 of the course and complete the coursework unit. Unit 2 covers:
- Sports Psychology
- Socio-cultural Influences
- Health, fitness and well-being
- Use of Data
Sixth Form Provision
At Years 12 and 13 students engage in 1 ½ hours of structured physical activity every week in the compulsory Sport & Fitness lesson. The aim of these lessons is to encourage the Sixth Form students to maintain an active lifestyle beyond the years of compulsory Physical Education. Students will have the opportunity to take part in a huge variety of activities including:

A-Level PE
There is a thriving A Level Physical Education course available to students in Years 12 and 13. The course follows the AQA exam board and attracts both internal and external students, producing good value added results year on year. The course consists of four units; three theory exams and one courework in year 13.
Students will cover subjects areas such as:
- Applied anatomy and physiology,
- Excerise Physiology
- Biomechanics
- Skill Accquistion
- Sports Psychology
- Sports and soicety
- Contemporary issues in Physical activity & Sport
Students will also complete the 30% coursework unit covering:
- Performance and Coaching
- Evaluation and Analysis of Performance for Improvement (EAPI)
