Northampton School for Boys

Headteacher's Bulletin - Friday, September 13th 2024

There's a head of steam building in the rich NSB extracurricular programme with lunchtime and after school sessions this week buzzing with student activity across the NSB campus. The U13 A and B rugby teams had the honour of playing in the first competitive rugby matches of the full season against Warwick School last Saturday with both teams playing brilliantly to secure strong wins.

Tonight sees the First XV take on Ipswich School in the Schools Rugby Championship at 6.30pm on the First Team pitch (spectators welcome) and the Second XV take on Leicester Grammar from 5.30pm on the lower levels. The Ipswich game is being live streamed with commentary and the link will be put on the NSB Sport X account (twitter) later this afternoon.

Sunday morning sees NSB competing in the Elite Academy Basketball Cup (all day event) in the NSB Sports Hall. Click here for the trailer. And to round the week off, our Year 13 leavers (23-24) will deliver their final Cripps Theatre performance with Shrek Jnr - The Musical on Sunday evening at 7pm. Tickets are available here from the Box Office

There have been a number of students that I have had the pleasure of seeing this week in recognition of exceptional pieces of work / performance. This has included Izzy Seymour's (Y12) phenomenal History submission, which she backed up verbally with a razor-sharp analysis of  historic Russian Leaders and Sophie Gould Y13, for gaining her first Senior Welsh Cap in Water Polo over the Summer. Sophie has also been impressively selected as the youngest member of the Welsh Senior squad to represent her country in the Senior EU Nations Cup later this year as well as gaining selection for Great Britain in the EU Junior Nations event in November. Sophie can be seen in the picture next to the Dutch Water Polo captain and Olympic bronze medalist, Sabrina van der Sloot.

I mentioned the fantastic competitive Pokémon Tournament achievements of Ethan and Shan Church last year and I'm delighted to report that both boys performed strongly in the Summer World Championships in Hawaii with Ethan's deep run in the competition only ended by the World number 2. Shan ended the season ranked 18 in Europe (Seniors) and Ethan 3rd in Europe (Juniors) alongside a significant accumulated prize money fund. A huge well done to both boys.

Finally, a reminder to parents / carers that students should not be dropped off or picked up in the Crescent at the front of the school unless a special pass has been issued by the Inclusion Team - these are issued where students need a proximal pickup due to injury or disability. Please contact Mrs Spencer (SENDCo) at the school for further information.
