Headteacher's Bulletin - Friday, September 27th 2024

Chipsey raised the 2023-24 House Cup aloft this week after pipping Manley by 19 points. The 24/25 competition is already hotting up with every curriculum area planning a House Activity for each year group over the course of this academic year.

NSB students have a huge range of individual achievements to celebrate this week, including a double international call up:

Bobby Ashton Y10 attended an England U15 football training camp last weekend at St George's Park, following in the footsteps of various recent NSB alumni including Carney Chukwuemeka / Logan Briggs and Kyle Kelly, who are now enjoying professional contracts at Chelsea, Leicester and Liverpool respectively.

Hugh Shields has been picked a year young for an England Rugby U18 Specialist Backs / Front 5 training camp to take place this weekend at Bisham Abbey, alongside last year's leavers - Sonny Tonga'uiha and Oli Scola, who are in the U20s camps. Both Bobby and Hugh have been in majestic form for the school since September, playing an integral part in the U15 football and U18 rugby teams respectively in their comprehensive National Cup victories earlier this week. The U15 football game that Bobby played in also featured a well-known face as referee - Stuart Burt, fresh from running the line in the Man City v Arsenal classic at the weekend. Stuart is a great supporter of the school, regularly refereeing School Cup games for us.

Further information about the rugby camp and England U20 Elite squad can be found here and here

We are very proud of the level of artistic achievements of NSB students and the first few weeks of school have yielded some wonderful pieces of work from the KS4 / KS5 Art classes - please see a selection put forward by Miss Clark below:

Joshua and Joseph Underwood are currently lighting up the National Squash Circuit, alongside Harrison Waterson in Y10, with some consistently excellent results. On the back of his performances in a recent high profile event in Doncaster, Joseph has been selected by the national coaches to represent the North of England next year in a Battle of the Border competition against the South.

Finally, many congratulations to former student Josephina Chapman who has not only gained a place in the highly competitive 'Ibaia String Quartet', but she has also been awarded a First Class Honours after completing the prestigious Bachelor of Music course at Trinity Laban Conservatoire.  Josephina's achievements are an inspirational story of success for our current musicians to aspire to - please see a link to the Ibaia String Quartet here
