Headteacher's Bulletin - Friday, November 29th 2024
Last week, the Bulletin covered the fantastic recent achievements of the Big Band who were the only school in the county to be awarded the highest award of Platinum in the National Concert Band Regional Finals earlier this month, qualifying them for the National Finals in April. The good news is that the group will be back in action shortly, alongside many of our other wonderful NSB ensembles, as part of the NSB Christmas Concert extravaganza next Thursday at 7pm - tickets on sale from The Box Office.
We always enjoy hearing about and celebrating the successes of our former students which are so inspirational for our current cohort and two alumni have been shining particularly bright in their achievements over the past few weeks:
Last week, the NSB Drama department went to the Royal & Derngate to see 'Wonder Boy' which starred former Head Girl - Naia Elliot- Spence who was fabulous and well worth the fantastic press reviews which have followed her performances around the country's leading theatres, such as the one below:
Naia Elliott-Spence (far left in photo below), was wonderfully natural within her role, befriending not just Sonny but the audience in tow. Not only was her one-sided conversations the epitome of comedic chaos, but her vulnerability towards the end of the play showed the true depths of her talents;
Another former student - Ollie Sleightholme has been hitting the national headlines by scoring tries for fun in the Autumn Internationals for England with four in three games against Australia, Japan and South Africa.
On the rugby theme, many congratulations to the NSB U15 Rugby Team who have emulated the U18 Boys by reaching the National Cup Quarter Finals after battling through a highly competitive East Midlands Final against Ipswich School by 25 points to 20. Well done also to the U12A, U14A and U18B football teams and the U14 Basketball and U15 Water Polo teams who have progressed through another round of their respective National Cups after excelling in performances against some strong opposition this week. The U18 rugby team take on Warwick School away next Wednesday at 3.15pm in what promises to be a titanic National Cup Quarter Final battle.
Finally, the very best of luck to the NSB Maths Department who have been shortlisted for Maths Team of the Year at the Northamptonshire Education Awards later this evening. After achieving nothing short of incredible student outcomes in the GCSE / A Level Maths exams last summer, they will be fully deserving of any accolade that falls their way.
