Headteacher's Bulletin - Friday, December 6th 2024
I wrote earlier today to all NSB parents and carers to share the news of three wonderful accolades awarded to NSB in the last week - as summarised below:
Last Friday evening, NSB was awarded the prestigious title of Northamptonshire Secondary School of the Year and yesterday the Department for Education published the national GCSE Performance Tables which top ranked NSB in West Northants for all GCSE Key Performance Measures.
Today we received some additional fantastic news from the Sunday Times with NSB named as the top performing Comprehensive Secondary School in the East Midlands for 2024. Please see a link to the Press Release celebrating this phenomenal Triple Crown of accolades for our students and wider NSB community!
Northampton School for Boys - NSB Secure Triple Crown of Local and National Honours
The Cripps Theatre was packed on Thursday night and all present enjoyed a rip-roaring extravaganza of festive music from our extremely talented NSB musicians. It was an amazing spectacle to see so many students packing into the huge range of ensembles and the level of performance at times was breathtaking. A huge thanks to all students, staff, parents, friends of NSB Music and governors involved in formulating such a magical evening of entertainment.
Elena Davies (Year 13) is an exceptionally talented aspiring medic who has recently had an article published by the national publication - Medic Mentor as attached - pages 8&9 on the Heart. Elena's article is brilliant - richly concise and informative, building expertly on previous articles for our very own NSB Science Journal (full article at the bottom of the page)
The U18 rugby team had a titanic tussle with Warwick School on Wednesday in the Quarter Finals of the National Cup before ultimately ending up on the wrong end of the score line. However, it has been an excellent run to the last 8 from 128 teams starting out in the competition and the squad should be very proud of their achievements. Several of the group put on their trainers rather than their boots early this morning to cheer on the inspirational Kevin Sinfield in his record-breaking charity run in support of people suffering from Motor Neurone Disease. Many thanks to Brixworth Cricket Club for inviting our students over to cheer Kevin on, in his formidable attempt to run over 230 miles in a week!
The Water Polo season is getting into full swing and fresh from encouraging form in the London League and additionally a nail biting recent last second win against Wales for Northampton last weekend, the U18 team have cruised through their first round games to top their group of five schools. We look forward to the Championship Semi-Finals for both the U18s and the U15s after Christmas.
After the success of the inaugural Staff Christmas Panto last year, staff will be treading the boards once again on December 12th next week with Jack and the Beantin. KS3 will be able to purchase tickets to watch a lunchtime performance, with general admission tickets available online for the 6pm performance - A 'must watch' evening of high drama and entertainment!!!
We would like to give our thanks to Welford Tree farm for the gorgeous Christmas tree we have displayed in the 1911 Hall and the impressive wreath displayed on the front doors donated by Flowers and Strings.
Finally, the Local Authority have announced that there will be complete closure of the Billing Road / Rushmere Road / Park Avenue South junction from 8pm -6am from December 9th - 13th for road resurfacing. Please take this into account if you are attending any NSB / ONs events over these evenings.
