Headteacher's Bulletin - Friday, November 15th 2024

On Monday morning the Student Leadership Team led a powerful and emotive assembly to mark Remembrance Day. The entire Sixth Form cohort were impeccable with their behaviour and levels of respect throughout both the assembly and the silent file past NSB's Hornbeam Tree (propagated from the last remaining Tree in Delville Wood after the Battle of the Somme) and the NSB War Memorial in the 1911 Hall which honours the 194 former students and staff who tragically lost their lives in the two World Wars.

Last year saw the launch of the NSB Science journal - a set of papers researched, written and published by our leading Year 13 Scientists. The initial reception for the journal was so overwhelmingly positive that we are now onto the third edition, which Mrs Bradley-Brophy reports on below:

Please click here for the 3rd Issue of NSB's Science Journal. —it’s absolutely phenomenal! The team has taken the idea of a school journal to a whole new level, blending cutting-edge science with creativity and meticulous detail. Their journal is not just a school project; it’s practically professional quality!

The students continued to dig deep into their research, bringing complex topics to life with clarity and flair. The articles are not only scientifically rigorous but engaging and accessible—an impressive feat in itself. And the design! Every page is beautifully crafted, making it as visually captivating as it is intellectually stimulating. It has a new format for issue 3, with pages hyperlinked for ease too.  These students continue to blow me away.

It is inspiring to see Year 13 students contribute work of this caliber. Hats off to these Scientists—our Year 13 team have outdone themselves in every way!

Our Cross Country Runners enjoyed some wonderful success last week at the Regional Championships with two of our four teams - Junior and Senior Boys qualifying for the National Finals. Mr Taplin Reports:

Ollie Groves came 5th and Will Davey 7th in the Junior Boys event. The team won by 25 points which is a huge margin and qualify for the National Final on December 7th  at The Grammar School at Leeds.

Josh Pinney came 3rd in the IB race. The team finished 4th by only 5 points so just miss out on the National Final.

Nathan Lamb came a magnificent 1st and Mal Collins 3rd in the Senior Boys race. The team finished 5 points behind the winners and also qualify for the National Final.

Emily Gates was 15th in the Senior Girls and all of the team were so enthusiastic about being at the Regional Final. They were fantastic!

Finally, our NTTP Programme which is focussed on training the next generation of teachers was recognised this week on the national stage. Mrs Druker reports:

Following a highly successful Ofsted inspection of NTTP in 2024, in which we were graded Outstanding in all categories, Mr Taplin, Mrs Barlow and I were invited to speak to Initial Teacher Training leaders across the country at the National Association of School Based Teacher Trainers’ conference yesterday. The event focused on how ITT providers could prepare for an inspection, and we were able to share our experience and insights to support this network. It was an honour to be able to lead a session with ITT colleagues and the opportunity to talk about our inspection outcome on a national stage recognises the expertise and dedication of the entire NTTP team.

NTTP have been training teachers since 1999. If you are interested in joining the NTTP, whose ‘exceptionally strong and trusted reputation’ has led to the successful training of more than 400 trainees, please visit our website: www.nttp.co.uk
