Sports Aptitude Tests will be held at Northampton School for Boys on Thursday 12th January from 4:15pm to 6:15pm in 60 minute slots.

Sports Aptitude Test Outline

Applicants are required to take part in 4 sport-related activities. The first three are on a rotation, the final test will be all applicants together.

The four activities assess an applicant’s aptitude in the following areas: Agility, Power, Speed and Cardiovascular fitness.

Applicants will be assessed on a scale of 1-5 for each depending on their level of aptitude. There are different scoring criteria for boys and girls which allows comparability of outcomes.

Each applicant will receive an aggregate score up to a maximum of 20. Applicants will be ranked according to their score. The 9 applicants with the highest rank, will be offered a place. If an applicant with a rank within the 9 places available does not take up a place, the place is awarded to the next highest ranked applicant. Where there is more than one applicant with the same score, the ranked position for these applicants is determined by random allocation.

Some of the aptitude tests will be conducted indoors and some outdoors on Astroturf. Attendees should dress appropriately for the temperatures and weather in January. Attendees will be expected to wear clean trainers for the tests.  Please note, each attendee will be required to wear a distinct coloured/numbered bib throughout the testing, which will be provided by the school.  

It is likely that applicants will push themselves physically during this testing.  The parents of any applicant who has a pre-existing medical condition should make the school aware of this prior to testing through the application process on Eventbrite. Any applicant who is asthmatic should ensure they use their inhaler prior to exercise and carry it with them to the testing as necessary.
